Dr Parker is a Clinical Research Fellow in Cardiology at the Cardiovascular Research Unit, University of Sheffield and Honorary Registrar to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

He studied Medicine and Pharmacology at Cambridge University before completing the Academic Foundation Programme and Core Medical Training in his native city of Sheffield, obtaining Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of London and the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

He is currently carrying out research into how the use of antiplatelet ('blood-thinning') therapy in coronary heart disease can be improved to enhance the benefits whilst reducing risks of adverse effects.
